The ASES Bootcamp for Career Design

ABCD serves as your stepping stone into a remarkable career. Following an innovative, track-oriented process, students will learn to identify their key strengths and discover impactful solutions to various problems in our technological sphere, while connecting with like-minded individuals. Bootcamp culminates in a final case presentation, in which teams of students present their solutions to a panel of esteemed judges.

What makes up the #DreamTeam?

The Hacker

The Hacker eats, sleeps and breathes code. With a knack for spreadsheets and all things data, the hacker is in charge of one of the hardest tasks — creating the actual product. The Hacker is instrumental in choosing the coding environment and platform for the business to sustain growth.

The Hustler

The Hustler eats, sleeps and breathes the business model. The Hustler has a keen eye for numbers, such as financials, cost structure and user metrics, can speak to the long and short-term vision of the business, and can make investor pitches and tough decisions.

The Hipster

The Hipster eats, sleeps and breathes design. This is the designer that makes sure the product is delivering the best customer experience. The Hipster sets best practices in design, brand identity building, user experience, and the look and feel of the product.

July 28: Know Yourself

Black Box Theater, Ateneo de Manila Senior High School Self-development talks by prominent individuals will be held. At the end of the day the participants will be tasked to create their own life trajectory, which will help them have a better understanding of themselves on what they want to achieve, why they want to achieve it, and how they want to achieve it.

July 29: Build Yourself

Yuchengco Museum Workshops on business model creation, UI/UX, analytics, and more will be offered to the participants. These activities will help the participants learn more about their chosen fields so that they may be able to sharpen and develop the skills they need to achieve their goals. Later in the day, the participants will be given time with their teams to better prepare for the pitching competition the next day.

Pitch Yourself

Hole in The Wall, Century City Mall Participants will be given a case to work on and pitch to a panel of esteemed figures from their fields. After the winners are announced, a farewell dinner will follow at a nearby restaurant to close the event.

Our Speakers

Jaime Young

Jaime Young, a former Associate Product Manager at Kalibrr for Marketplace Growth and Indonesia Expansion -- helped grow the user base from 200,000 jobseekers to 600,000 jobseekers during his leave of absence (Jan 2016-Jan 2017) from the Ateneo De Manila University. 

He is currently the CEO of Taikuun.com a mobile B2B market that streamlines purchase order generation for B2B sales and collaboration. His focus as of this moment is building products and services that empower SME's in SEA. He is currently growth hacking his industry knowledge and experience within different wholesaling and manufacturing industries within the region.

Alexis Collado

Alexis founder the User Experience Society, the first student UX organization in the Philippines. For two years, we've had 20+ events with 30+ speakers for over 300 members and 500+ attendees. They have expanded to California this year.

 He also helps cultivate the design community in Manila as the youngest core member of UX Philippines. He has interned for award-winning companies such as Jump Digital Asia, Freelancer.com, and NuWorks Interactive Labs—usually being the first UX Design intern.

Paul Rivera

From a call center agent to one of the co-founders and CEO of Kalibrr, Paul V. Rivera has the heart of a visionary and a hustler. Launched in 2012, Kalibrr is a tech startup that helps people find jobs. It was awarded as the Most Innovative Company in the recent Asia CEO Awards and was the first Filipino company to get into Y Combinator, a renowned tech incubator.

 Paul studied BA Political Economy at the University of California, Berkeley. Pre-Kalibrr, he served as a product manager at Mercantila, worked on the AdWords platform at Google and was the co-founder and president of Open Access, a BPO that helps scale the people operations of various Silicon Valley startups.


Ron Baetiong

Ron is an experienced startup founder in the Philippines who created the first and biggest chatbot development agency in the Philippines and led the company to be acquired in 12 months since conceptualization. He has been a big help to those in the process of growing their startup and has successfully raised seed funding worth from Kickstart Ventures, 500 Startups and many more investors.  He as well conceptualized, designed, launched and grown the biggest nightlife app in the Asia – Partyphile and garnered 120,000+ users for the mobile app.

Gabs Bularan

Gabs Buluran is Managing Director of Kantar TNS one of the country's leading research agencies. He has close to 30 years of experience in media and market Research, designing studies, managing data collection, and panel homes and data production. 

Before joining Kantar TNS, he worked with ACNielsen Philippines. He joined the company as Associate Director of Nielsen Media Research, then went on to become the Director for Customized Research Operations.

Russ Malangen

Russ is in charge of community relations and programs at Launchgarage Innovation Hub, ranging from partnerships with founders and investors, workshops through its Garage Academy Medium, incubation for startups, and more. 

He is also the Founder and CEO of LX Innovative Solutions, an internationally recognized IoT based startup, and was 3rd on Connected World Magazine’s Top 10 IoT Pioneers Under 40 list in 2018. He is an alumnus of e27’s TOP100 Programme and a fixture as a public speaker in tech conferences both locally and abroad, giving him experience on both sides of the plate, working in a startup and working with them to ensure their development.

Ely Apao

Ely Apao is the Founder of UX Philippines, Founder of JumpSparc Inc, and the Co-Founder of Apical Design. 

He has also worked as the UX Manager for OLX, one of the leading e-commerce websites in the
country as well as US Auto Parts, a company listed in Internet Retailer’s magazine as one of the
largest e-retailers in 2007. 

Currently, Ely is a User Experience and User Centered Design Coach aimed at inspiring designers, developers, and enthusiasts to learn more about improving the human experience while adding business value.

Kristian Guevarra

Kristian Guevara is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Tralulu, a digital platform
accelerated from StartupMalaysia and is featured on South East Asia 100 as one of the highest-
potential companies of South East Asia. 

He is responsible for the engineering, software architecture, and product development of
Tralulu as well as Rekursv Inc., a startup based in Silicon Valley residing in Cupertino, CA. 

Currently he is in the process of pioneering his own accelerator program, bridging the gap
between the startup community and university students.

      FAQs

      Do we enter the competition as teams or as individuals?

      Both. The bootcamp accepts individual applications as well as team applications. The individuals applying will be assessed and teamed up by the ASES Manila team.

      Who can apply?

      Only college students and incoming senior high school students (Grade 12) will be allowed to join the bootcamp.

      Are we allowed to select only one track for the Bootcamp?

      Yes, applicants must select only one track for the Bootcamp. There are three tracks available: Hustler, Hacker, and Hipster.

      Can I attend only one or two days?

      Unfortunately, we will not allow that. Participants must be present on all three days.

      What does the fee include?

      The fee covers food for all three days (lunch and merienda), and the Bootcamp participant kit.

      Will there be overnight housing?

      There is no housing for the Bootcamp. Each day is scheduled to end at 6:30pm. Participants may go home or find a place to stay.

      When will the results of the applications be announced?

      Results of the applications will be released on July 2, 2018.

      How can I send my payment?

      Once your application has been accepted, you will be given instructions on how to deposit your payment to confirm your slot.
